12/2/91 — Our NICU Journey Day 16

December 2, 2010

Isaac — 616 grams

Molly — 672 grams

Kenn cupping his hand around a still-naked little Molly. This was the closest we had come to holding either of them at this point. Molly is on a radiant heat ("Ohio") bed, probably because she needed some lines changed that day.

Your oxygen is still way up, but the 48-hour culture came back negative, so that means no infection and you are off the antibiotics. They took another chest x-ray to make sure there is no more collapse of your lungs. They are going to give you some more blood to see if that will help. Karen is changing your IV. Dr. Gardner says you have bad lung disease because you were born so soon, and it will take some time to turn around.

Ultrasound today. Your bilirubin lights were all off today. You are still getting the hyperal and lipids at the same rate. Your oxygen is up and your nurse says they are thinking of maybe starting you on some steroids for your lungs. This medicine should help them grow and heal. Today was your last dose of Indocin and you have gone 48 hours without any signs of your PDA. We hope it is closed. We were here while they were messing with you — changing your lines and stuff — and Daddy noticed that you were really mad. Your mouth was open and you were trying to cry, but you can’t because of that damn tube in your mouth. Poor girl.
