12/11/91 — Our NICU Journey Day 25

December 11, 2010

Isaac — not weighed

Molly — 617 grams

Preemie babies aren't supposed to be able to focus or see, but we could all swear that Ike would look directly at us, trying to communicate. Here he is peeking out of just one eye, looking for all the world like the world's tiniest pirate.

Three cheers for Isaac. You are on room air at a rate of 15. The bad news is that you have a yeast infection in your blood and you have to have medicine through a different IV for 30 days. The good news is that it doesn’t seem to be bothering you. Your blood gases are good and they keep lowering your rate. So keep fighting, big guy. You are winning the war.

You continue to do well — room air with a rate of six!  Your pressure is way down, too (14/4).  Keep it up and Dr. G says you can start trying to eat tomorrow. And if that goes well, we should really start to see you grow. They think your big weight loss may be due to the trouble you had this weekend. You could have burned off a lot of calories while trying to fight off a little infection. So they increased your lipids up to .4. You still have a long way to go, but you finally seem to be moving in the right direction. So keep looking ahead and we will, too.
