12/20/91 — Our NICU Journey Day 34

December 20, 2010

Isaac — 577 grams

Molly — 626 grams

Holding hands with a preemie: this is Ike's little hand trying to grasp one of the nurse's fingers. Look closely at his shoulder and you will see the fine downy hair called lanugo often found on preemies and sometimes on newborns.

All your cultures are still negative. Yay!  You have been S-L-O-W-L-Y gaining weight over the past eight days (about 55 grams total). Dr. Nash reports that you have no PDA, so it is all good news today. Keep it up, pal!

Another quiet day for you today. Feeding is going well and you finally gained a few grams. The results of the echo came back yesterday and your ductus is still open, but it is very, very tiny. It doesn’t seem to be bothering you at all, and they believe it will just close on its own. Tomorrow night you’ll get a bath and a new isolette, just in time for Grandma and Grandpa’s visit.
