12/25/91 — Our NICU Journey Day 39

December 25, 2010

Isaac — Not weighed

Molly — 690 grams

My favorite gift was always getting to hold the babies. Here I am, holding Molly. You can see I was thrilled, and much more comfortable than when I held her earlier in the month. She was off the vent and all bundled up to keep warm. Now they use Kangaroo Care on the NICU, where moms and dads are encouraged to hold their babies skin to skin against their hearts, keeping the baby warm with the heat from the adult body.

Isaac

You’re doing OK today, pal. Up and down on your Os. They are holding your feeds another day to see if your stomach looks better. Merry Christmas, little guy. You got lots of neat presents. Lots of twin stuff, but lots of things just for you, too. Grandma and Papa gave you green jump suit with black polka dots, two ornaments (a snowman and a blue one that says baby’s first Christmas, a little football and basketball, a music box. Uncle Ed gave you a musical mobile; Samantha and her mom gave you a denim Osh Kosh B’Gosh outfit; Great Grandma B. gave you a photo album; GG gave you a stuffed gingerbread man and a Raggedy Andy. Mama gave you an antique “We Like Ike” button.

Molly

Merry Christmas, Miss Molly. You’re doing great! On room air with just a cannula in your nose.  I got to hold you today and you did really well.  I’m so proud of you. You are growing by leaps and bounds and getting stronger every day. You got lots of presents today, too. Grandma and Papa gave you a yellow jump suit with black polka dots (Ike got a green one just like it), two ornaments (a snowgirl and a pink one that says baby’s first Christmas, a little softball, a projector music box. Uncle Ed gave you a musical mobile; Samantha and her mom gave you a denim Osh Kosh B’Gosh outfit; Great Grandma B. gave you a photo album; GG gave you a stuffed gingerbread girl, a Raggedy Ann and a musical dolly. Mama gave you a Little Richard record of the song “Good Golly, Miss Molly”, which is what everyone around here calls you.
