1/15/92 — Our NICU Journey Day 60

January 15, 2011

Isaac — not weighed (very sick)

Molly — 868 grams

We started thinking of Molly as a "big" girl, and she did look big inside her isolette. But here you see her in her Daddy's hand, still pretty little — not quite two pounds. Everything is relative. But she is finally starting to look like a "real" baby. The NG tube (feeding tube) had been moved from her nose to her mouth and she was now getting her oxygen through the nasal cannula.

Isaac

Isaac, you must be getting better. You are down to a rate of 12 on 23 percent oxygen. Almost room air!! You still need a lot of pressure, though, to get air into your lungs. It seems all the fluid in your body and gunk in your lungs makes it difficult to move your chest. We really hope to see that swelling start to come down soon. I look forward to the day when you look like a little Raisinette again, because that will mean that you are better. It’s going to take a long time for your lungs to heal, but I promise to try to be patient. I should never lose faith in you — you are the strongest person I have ever met.

Molly

You gained 18 grams last night. Good girl. Today they will probably remove your PCVC. That’s a central IV line. That will lower the amount of fluids you are getting, so maybe they can up your feeds a little bit. Daddy gave you a bottle for the first time last night. It was neat to see. You look so petite and cute in his big hand. You kept looking at him with your great big eyes. You took about half the bottle before you pooped out. Good job.

HEY Molly! So I can celebrate the first time I fed you. I want to take you out to dinner tonight. (Sunday)
