1/21/92 — Our NICU Journey Day 66

January 21, 2011

Isaac — 892 (very sick)

Molly — 915 grams (over 2 pounds)

Here's Kenn holding Molly. We had to keep her pretty bundled up when she was out of the isolette because losing heat meant burning calories that she couldn't afford to lose.

Isaac

Isaac, you have had a very big day today. They heard some wheezing sounds and thought you might have something in your tube, so they extubated you and decided to see how you would do on your own. So far, you are hanging in, but you are requiring quite a bit of oxygen, so you will probably need to be reintubated tonight. But if you do, you shouldn’t worry too much. You are getting better, and if you need the vent for a while longer, that’s OK. You actually got a couple of feedings today. Just one cc each time, but they decided to stop them when you got extubated. Too many changes all at one time leads to too much stress, so they are going to hold off on feeding you again for a while.

Molly

You did it, Mol! You passed two pounds. What a big girl. I’m so proud of you. Daddy and I went out and bought you some new clothes today. We got you a kimono, a sleeper and some t-shirts (long- and short-sleeved). You’ll be the fashion queen of the ISCU.
