2/13/92 — Our NICU Journey Day 89

Isaac — not weighed

Molly — 1310 grams

This picture of Ian holding his baby brother Isaac was taken about a week later than this journal entry. This was the first time he got to hold either of the babies, though he had visited often. It's funny, but when I look at this picture, Isaac seems so big — it's Ian (who's now an adult) who looks little. Everything is relative.

Isaac

They lowered you back down to 20ccs of food because they reduced your Lasix. When we came in tonight, Karen was rocking you. She said you were a wild man. We can take you out of your isolette every day now and hold you and rock you. You are acting like a big kid, even though you are still just a little shaver. Karen tried to nipple feed you again today. It totally pooped you out and you only took four ccs. Then you had three heart rate drops after that. Guess you are not quite ready to take a bottle yet.

Molly

I fed you a bottle today at 11:00 a.m. You did great — you took almost 19 ccs. It seemed to me that you approached the whole experience differently today. You seemed more confident. You sucked, breathed and swallowed in a very organized fashion. And you even let out a big burp. You have been sitting in your little bouncy seat for two hours and Karen says you have been loving it. I sure do love to hold and feed you. You look at me and smile and make cute funny faces. You contort your mouth into all different kinds of positions. Such a beautiful, bow-shaped mouth.

How old is Ian now? That is such a wonderful picture!

He will be 32 later this month. He and my youngest son share a birthday — 19 years apart. Ian got married last summer and lives in Seattle and works for Microsoft. One of my favorite people in the world.
