3/1/92 — Our NICU Journey Day 106

March 1, 2011

Isaac — 1283 grams

Molly — 1634 grams

Miss Molly was getting big and we were getting excited about bringing here home. Here she's all snuggly after a bath.

Isaac

Today was a beautiful, sunny, spring-like day. Daddy and I went out shopping to get your ready for your homecoming. It won’t be long now. Molly will be coming home in another couple of weeks. You still have about 500 more grams to grow before we can bring you home (at 20 grams a night, that’s another month at least). I’m hoping you will be off oxygen by then. I don’t know if I can handle two of you on oxygen, but we will manage somehow. You are taking more and more of your bottle (20 ccs at 9:00 a.m.), and not dropping your heart rate too much. Last night you took 19 ccs from me after a pretty weak attempt at breastfeeding. I’m not worried, though. I know you’ll get it all together soon. You are still such a little guy and we expect so much of you. You’re not even three pounds yet.

Molly

We bought a bunch of stuff to get the house ready for your homecoming. We bought a dresser and a crib mattress cover, and a special insert for the car seat, as well as some bottles and other stuff that you’ll need. It was fun. It made it feel like you really will be coming home soon. They have got you on some kind of anti-gas medication and it seems to make you rest more comfortably. It looks to me like you might have gained a lot of weight today. For some reason, you’re looking bigger. Maybe it’s just because you were sleeping so peacefully. Today is the first day of the fifth month you have been here in the ISCU. You started in November, when it was still fall, then December, January and February, and now it is March. We have been here such a long time.

So great to see little Molly over the months, becoming really baby-adorable and ready to go home!

On our way, but every day was still one step forward, one step back, only now we added a couple of side steps and a little cha-cha here and there.
