3/23/92 — Our NICU Journey Day 128

March 23, 2011

Isaac — 1733 grams

Molly — 1905 grams

Home. Isaac was coming home. I could hardly believe it. Here I'm holding Ike and flanked by Kenn and Becky. The white thing in Kenn's hand is a rolled up cloth diaper (later known in our family as a "woobie", taped tightly with a modified preemie nipple on the end to act as a Binky (pacifier) for Isaac. This nurses invention was invaluable, as it allowed us to tuck the bottom of the roll into Ike's shirt and hold the Binky in front of Ike's mouth, which made it available whenever he wanted it. Behind Kenn, you can see a much smaller preemie in what looks like a tanning bed. Those were the bilirubin lights, thankfully a treatment that we had outgrown. It's hard to believe that at less then four pounds Ike had outgrown anything.

Isaac

You are coming HOME on Wednesday!!! We have a lot to learn about your theophylline and a few other things, but we are bringing you home.

Molly

We are taking Isaac home on Wednesday. You will be here a day or two longer, but don’t worry. It won’t be too bad. You are back on ad lib demand and your meds are by mouth again. We are going to try to schedule your eye and hearing tests before you come home. It won’t be long now before we are all together.

What a journey for Isaac! Finally home! Your eyes speak your happiness. And I thank you for introducing the ‘woobie’ to our home. Great word that we used when Michael was born. Welcome home Isaac!
