4/21/92 (Day 157) — Children’s Memorial Day 9

April 21, 2011

Fussy and irritable. Irritable and fussy. No mention in these notes about how darn cute he was getting. That dark, almost black hair was starting to grow in and he looked like a little man. His fussiness was so quiet that it really only disturbed him; we could barely hear it. The concern was always how many calories he was taking in versus how many he was using up, and fussiness burned calories. Of course, if you were only eating six or seven teaspoonfuls at a time, you would probably be a little fussy and irritable, too. Later, we would find out that much of his discomfort was coming from the Theophylline, but right now, he was just labeled fussy. Maybe he was just missing Molly, and us when we went to visit her.

Home nursing notes:

Isaac was awake and irritable at 8:00 a.m. Report received from father. Held and rocked him on and off all morning; he was quiet, but with periods of irritability. Took 30 ccs between 8:30 and 9:05 a.m. Asleep and placed in crib at 11:00 a.m. Awake at noon. Took another 40 ccs in 20 minutes, before falling asleep again. Awake at 1:45 p.m. when he took another 30 ccs over 30 minutes with much encouragement. Asleep at 2:25, but awake again 20 minutes later and took 15 more ccs. Awake and crying at 3:15; held and rocked asleep.

Evening — 5:00 p.m. took 45 ccs and burped 3 times during the feeding. Quite irritable at the time. Took another 35 ccs at 6:45 p.m. and fell asleep without difficulty.
