5/6/92 (Day 172) — Preemies at Home, day 39

May 6, 2011

Molly is wearing an outfit that the nurses from the Evanston ISCU (NICU) gave her as a going away gift. The dress and ruffles kind of overwhelmed her, but at least she wasn't drowning in it, like most of her other clothes. You can see the Nitropaste strip on her left leg (right side of picture); we rotated the strip to a different limb every two hours. You can see from the nursing notes that Molly was behaving much more like a bigger baby (sleeping for longer periods of time, with longer awake and alert times, and taking bigger feedings). Isaac was still behaving like a struggling newborn, feeding every 1-2 hours, but his feedings were getting a little bigger and more consistent.

Home nursing notes:

Isaac

Ike received asleep in crib at midnight. Awake and crying at 2:00 a.m., nippled 30 ccs and burped well. Took another 35 ccs after diaper change. Awake and crying at 4:00 a.m., nippled 30 ccs. Awake and fussy at 6:00 a.m., calmed by nippling small amount of formula; took total of 60 ccs after diaper change. Awake and crying at 7:30 a.m. Nippled 30 ccs and burped well.

Used bulb syringe to relieve nasal congestion at 8:30 a.m. (greenish-yellow thick secretions). No nasal flaring; no retractions. Breath sounds clear in all lobes. Chest expansion equal. Quiet and awake at noon. Awake and crying at 4:00 p.m. Drank 10 ccs.

Molly
