5/9/92 (Day 175) — Preemies at Home, day 42

This is our good friend Ian Silverman holding Isaac. Ian and his family were visiting from Ann Arbor. I was Ian's first babysitter, starting when he was a newborn and I was 15 years old. He was 15 when Isaac and Molly were born, and later, when he was a student at Northwestern, babysat for them. There have been lots of full circle moments between our two families.

Home nursing notes:

Isaac

Received Isaac from Dad asleep prone in crib. Awake and crying at 2:00 a.m. Diaper changed and tood 25 ccs formula PO; rocked asleep and returned to crib. Ike took 40 ccs at 4:30; fussy and passing flatus. Refused PO Mylicon. Gave Mylicon with 12 ccs formula, and then took another 35 ccs. Awake and fussy at 6:00 a.m. After diaper change, took 10 ccs and fell asleep. Awake and fussy at 8:00 a.m. Slowly taking feeding of 5-10 ccs. Sleeps much of the time. Wakes for feeding and fussy when awake. Took downstairs at 2:00 p.m. to visit with family. Returned upstairs at 3:00 p.m. Took total of 90 ccs since he went downstairs. Had a large BM. Had emesis 3 times in the past hour.

Molly

Received from dad asleep prone in crib. Took 50 ccs at 2:00 a.m. Diaper changed for mushy brown stool. Nitropaste applied to L arm. Returned to crib. Nitropaste changed to L leg at 4:00 a.m., returned sleeping to crib after diaper change. Nitropaste changed to  R leg at 6:00 a.m., after diaper change for void and stool. Mylicon given at 6:15 a.m. for fussiness and passing flatus; calmed somewhat. At 8:00 a.m., took 105 ccs. Still seemed hungry. Abdomen full and firm. Diaper changed for void and stool.

During day, took feedings well. Alternating between sleep and being awake. Changed Nitropaste strips every two hours, rotating per chart. Took downstairs by family at 1:30 p.m. for a visit. Brought back upstairs at 3:00 p.m. Diaper changed. Had eaten well while downstairs this afternoon. Voiding well. Sleeping off and on.
